“If Europe set before us such a condition, we would say - no thanks, we cannot be an EU member,” the presidential candidate and leader of the Serb Progressive Party (SNS) said at a rally in the town of Kikinda, northern Serbia.

However, Nikolić added that he had "not heard about the recognition being required either in Brussels, Washington or London".

The SNS leader also stated that he would accept every agreement that had been reached in the talks with Priština if in line with the Constitution, but that he "did not feel obligated to accept anything agreed on outside the limits of the Constitution or that was not good for the Serbian citizens".

Nikolić on Monday also campaigned in other towns in the North Bačka District.
