Presidential candidate Cedomir Jovanovic stated on Friday that he is running for president of Serbia in order to remind the country of the mistakes in the past. But the leader of the Liberal-Democrats (LDP) - nominated by the U-Turn coalition - said his bid also came in order to encourage Serbia to become a more modern and tolerant society. LDP leader: I run race to bring changes Jovanovic said that, because of the way the Democratic Party leader Boris Tadic led the country, his obligation was to run the race against him. At a pre-election rally in Belgrade, this politician also said he believed that "Serbia needs a president who would be supported by Sarajevo, understood by Croatia and who would not be satisfied with having divided the Serbs and ethnic Albanians in Kosovo". Jovanović said that, because of the way the Democratic Party leader Boris Tadić led the country, his obligation was to run the race against him.

Also on Friday Jovanović said would step down as LDP leader if elected president.
