The Serbian government on Tuesday in Belgrade adopted instructions for its representatives taking part in regional meetings alongside Kosovo's representatives. State officials are ordered to participate in those gatherings only if the name "Kosovo" is followed by an asterisk, while the same nameplate must also contain a footnote, the content of which is defined in the agreement on Kosovo's regional representation. Govt. issues instructions for regional gatherings The footnote itself, the instructions said, must be "visible, legible, and written in English". At the same time, Serbia's representatives are under obligation to each time read aloud a statement about Kosovo's attendance being in line with the agreement reached between Belgrade and Pristina in Brussels, and note that Kosovo is an autonomous province that is a part of Serbia. The government's instructions also specify that its representatives will not take part in any gatherings where representatives of Kosovo attempt to display their flag or any other insignia. Serbian delegations will also insist on the presence of the UN mission in Kosovo, UNMIK, in the meetings of those forums whose signatory is UNMIK. Kosovo's ethnic Albanians in early 2008 unilaterally declared independence, but Serbia rejects this proclamation. The agreement on regional representation was adopted during the ongoing, EU-sponsored Kosovo dialogue. B92
