Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic has stated that he is against holding of presidential elections on May 6. Parliamentary and local elections will be held on May 6. Dacic told daily Press that the SPS would decide on any possible post-election coalition based on the election results. When asked why he changed his mind, bearing in mind that he had previously announced a coalition with the Democratic Party (DS), he said that circumstances had changed and that “nobody mentioned the presidential elections at the time”. “I am not angry (with the Democrats) and I am not changing my stances. If I am forced to run for president and prime minister, then I have to defeat both (DS leader Boris) Tadic and (Serbian Progressive Party leader Tomislav) Nikolic,” the SPS leader and interior minster was quoted as saying. He added that the Socialists’ election program envisaged social justice for everyone, EU accession but not at all costs and only as long as it did not interfere with protection of Serbia’s national interests and combat against crime and corruption.
