The opposition Serb Progressives (SNS) have a 6.5 percent lead over the ruling Democrats (DS), a new poll conducted by Partner Consulting shows. EU's decision in early March to grant Serbian the status of candidate for membership has not considerably affected the mood of voters in Serbia, the survey revealed. Opposition SNS leads Democrats in new poll The SNS is supported by 35.5 percent of the respondents, while the DS could count on 29 percent, according to the poll's results. The opinion poll showed that the gap between the two largest parties in the country had narrowed slightly compared to a month ago, as both gained more support: the DS 3.2 percent, the Progressives 2.5 percent. The change in rating came from a growth in a number of voters who are now saying they will turn out to cast their ballots in the elections scheduled in Serbia for May 6. At the presentation of the public opinion poll, Partner Consulting Director Miroslav Sutic said that the turnout at the moment would reach 59 percent. According to the survey comprising 1,400 respondents, carried out March 7-11, 5.3 percent would back the Serb Radical Party (SRS), five percent the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), while 1.9 percent would vote for the United Regions of Serbia (URS). Furthermore, the EU candidate status was qualified as positive by 50.9 percent, and supported mostly by those who vote for the Democrats and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), while the strongest opposition to this development came from SRS supporters.
