Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik has reported that parliamentary, local and presidential elections in Serbia could be held on April 22. According to the daily, the decision on the exact date has not been made and it is still being discussed. Daily: Elections could be held on April 22 Dnevnik has learnt that all options, including the one to hold the parliamentary, local and presidential elections at the same time, are still on the table. The daily’s source claims that the final decision will be made in a few days, adding that the elections could be held on April 22. This way a period without a president would be minimized and parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic would perform presidential duties in accordance with the Constitution. A Socialist would that way run the state after ten years. Djukic-Dejanovic has stated that she does not know when the presidential elections will be held and whether they will be held together with parliamentary and local elections. Holding all three elections at the same time could be justified with lower costs and with a fact that if Serbian President Boris Tadic resigned, he would be the one who would improve the Democratic Party (DS) rating. The source added that early presidential election would open the door to new calculations and return of a coalition between the DS and G17 Plus, i.e. Mladjan Dinkic’s newly formed United Regions of Serbia (URS). The parliamentary, local and presidential elections were in Serbia at the same time held in 1990, 1992 and 1997. Experts believe that more voters would come to the polls if the presidential elections were held at the same time. Politika, Dnevnik
