The opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) and the ruling Democratic Party (DS) would win most votes if elections in Serbia were held today, a new poll shows. According to the results of the public opinion survey, the SNS would win 29.3 percent, while the DS could count on 26.4 percent of votes. The citizens are "most satisfied with the work of Serbian President Boris Tadic and the police". 47 percent of the 1,200 respondents who took part in the survey "fully support" Serbia's bid to join the EU, while 27 percent oppose it. According to the opinion poll, carried out from February 25 to March 4 , the following parties would also pass the 5 percent election threshold and win parliament seats: the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) with 7.1 percent, the Serb Radical Party (SRS) with 6.8 percent, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) with 6.2 percent, and the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), which could count on 5.4 percent of votes. The opinion poll showed that around 40 percent of the electorate would cast their ballot, 25 percent would not go to the polls, while 34 percent have note made up their mind. Furthermore, 80 percent of the respondents believe that a future coalition between the SNS and the DS would be "improbable". As regards the EU integration, those who oppose it do so mostly because they think that it will entail no benefit for Serbia (68 percent). 46 percent of the respondents is of the opinion that the fact that Serbia has recently become a candidate country for EU membership will not affect the outcome of the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
