Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic says Serbia never would have gotten the EU candidate status if his party had supported someone else in 2008. At a session of the European Integrations Committee, which was attended by Serbian President Boris Tadic, Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and all the ministers, Dacic said that the election promises made on October 5, 2000 were only fulfilled after the coalition with the SPS. SPS leader: There would be no status without us “With all due respect of the president and October 5, I would like to say that you only fulfilled your pre-election promises in the coalition with the SPS,” he pointed out. “If the SPS had decided with its coalition partners to support (Democratic Party of Serbia leader Vojislav) Kostunica and (Serb Radical Party leader Vojislav) Seselj not a single one of you would have sat here now and Serbia would not have had the candidate status,” the SPS leader stressed. He added that his party did not see the EU as a goal but as means that could help Serbian citizens live better. Ivica Dacic (file) Danas
