Belgrade team head Borislav Stefanovic says that Serbia can get a date for the beginning of the EU accession talks by the end of the year. He pointed out, however, that energy, telecommunications and EULEX and KFOR’s freedom of movement issues would have to be solved. “We can get accession talks date by year’s end” “Difficult talks about the energy and telecommunications issues await us and they will have to be solved by the next government,” he told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) late on Friday. The lead negotiator added that the dialogue with Pristina would continue after the upcoming parliamentary elections. He noted that the next government would not have an easy job but that he believed that the next government would protect the national interests and act for the benefit of the Serbian citizens in Kosovo. “The (EU accession talks) date is an important thing and that would be an irreversible step, which would be very unfortunate for Euroskeptics. The candidacy has confirmed that it is possible to continue the EU pathway and at the same time protect our national interests. It is important that Serbia does not give up on the dual approach because by giving up on one it could lose both of them,” Stefanovic stressed. Borislav Stefanovic (Beta, file) RTS Tanjug
