“Kosovo will be important to next government”

Serbian Ministry for Kosovo State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic has stated that the Kosovo issue will be high on the next government’s priority list. He explained that the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue would be suspended until the end of the Serbian elections and forming of the new government that would also regard the Kosovo issue as a priority. “Kosovo will be important to next government” Ivanovic said that the most difficult issues such as the status of northern Kosovo would be on the dialogue’s agenda once both sides were ready. “I personally think that the status issue will be opened once both sides are ready,” he stressed and added that the Kosovo Serbs needed to be included in the negotiating teams, “not only as somebody who implements the agreements but also as somebody who gives initiatives and proposals”. The state secretary stressed that the policy toward Kosovo needed to be comprehensive and consistent and that the Kosovo issue therefore must not be used for every day political purposes.
