Parliamentary elections will be held on April 29 or May 6, Serbian parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic has said. She noted that the elections would certainly be called by March 11. Speaker: Elections will be called by March 11 “Since the elections will certainly be repeated in some places, we still have a dilemma whether to schedule the elections for April 29, so the repeated voting could be held on May 6, or to hold the elections on St. George’s Day (May 6) and to hold the repeated elections by May 11, which is the last legal and constitutional deadline to complete the election process,” the speaker told daily Press. According to Djukic-Dejanovic, she and Serbian President Boris Tadic will call the local and parliamentary elections by March 11. She also called on the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS) to stay in the coalition with the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and United Serbia (JS) and added that she expected PUPS leader Jovan Krkobabic to make a final decision by the end of February. The parliament speaker stressed that unions were the Socialists’ natural partners and that there was a possibility that the parliament could hold sessions even after the elections are called. “In the case of early elections, parliament is dissolved once the elections are called. However, since these will be regular elections, parliament can hold sessions and adopt bills until new MPs convocation is constituted and their mandates verified,” Djukic-Dejanovic concluded.
