The Serbian Army Honor Guard will fire a gun salute in Belgrade on Tuesday, on the eve of February 15 - the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia. The salute will take place at military barracks Dedinje, the Ministry of Defense said. Serbia to mark Feb. 15, Statehood Day Serbia celebrates its Statehood and Army on February 15 and 16, to commemorate the 208th anniversary of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Turkish occupation. The uprising was led by Djordje Petrovic, known as Karadjordje, the founder of the subsequent ruling dynasty in the country. The day was also chosen to honor the anniversary of the proclamation of the Sretenje Constitution in 1835. The two events were cornerstones of the renewal of the Serbian medieval state and kingdom, destroyed in the Ottoman invasion and subsequent occupation that took place in late 14th, and 15th century.
