EU mediator for the talks between Belgrade and Pristina Robert Cooper arrived in Kosovo on Tuesday for a meeting with Pristina's negotiator Edita Tahiri. Cooper and Tahiri met in an attempt to agree on a solution to Kosovo's regional representation, which is a requirement for the resumption of the talks. EU mediator Cooper travels to Kosovo During the meeting, members of the opposition Self-Determination Movement were protesting, claiming that Kosovo was prepared to give up the word "republic" in its name when it comes to regional representation. Members of the radical ethnic Albanian movement wrote "Kosovo republic" on the government headquarters in Pristina, which resulted in eight activists being arrested by the police. The talks between Belgrade and Pristina were interrupted more than two months ago because the two sides could not agree on how Kosovo would be represented at regional and international meetings. Pristina has so far rejected the proposal insisted on by Belgrade, to add Resolution 1244 to Kosovo's name. Tahiri said on Tuesday, ahead of Cooper's arrival, she expected him to bring a proposal to solve the issue of Kosovo's representation at regional forums. Albanian language daily Express reports that "ahiri has said no one knows what proposal Cooper is bringing, but that she is certain Pristina will not accept any mention of Resolution 1244 or the word 'republic' not accompanying 'Kosovo'."
