Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says that an investigation will show whether Zemun gang members had some help in an attempt to escape from prison. “The investigation is underway, prison guards have been remanded in custody and I would like to stress that they are not police officers, meaning they are under the Justice Ministry's jurisdiction," the minister explained. “Probe will shed light on attempted escape” "Police are not guarding the prisoners, it is only determined in Gendarmerie's systematization that its members are guarding the outer perimeter around the prison,“ he added. Zemun gang members Sretko Kalinic and Zeljko Milovanovic attempted to escape from prison on Tuesday morning. When asked whether crime boss Sreten Jocic aka Joca Amsterdam was behind the escape attempt, Dacic said: “We are yet to determine whether the attempted escape was a result of an organized operation or guards' oversight . It is very important to carry out regular security checks of the entire system in order to prevent such attempts.” He underscored the fact that members of the Gendarmerie had played the key role in the prevention of Kalinic and Milovanovic's escape. “If there had not been for them, we should not even think what today would have looked like, meaning the search for the escaped prisoners,“ the minister explained. “Every prisoner's dream is to escape, that's old news. Our goal and job is to prevent them,“ he added, explaining that the prosecution, court, police and all those who had jurisdiction in the the case should now act. Dacic added that it was very important to get to the bottom of the case. Ivica Dacic (Tanjug, file) Tanjug
