If a coalition led by the Serb Progressives (SNS) forms the next government, "there must not be forgiveness like after Oct. 5", says Velimir Ilic. Ilic, who heads New Serbia (NS) - a party allied with Tomislav Nikolic's SNS - spoke in reference of Oct. 5, 2000, when a coalition that his party took part in ousted the regime of Slobodan Milosevic. "Progressives won't be forgiving after victory" The current government "destroyed Serbia and introduced dangerous levels of borrowing", said he. According to Belgrade-based daily Blic, Ilic addressed a party forum in Mladenovac to say that the opposition coalition had agreed to nominate Tomislav Nikolic for prime minister if they win in elections later this year - "because the people in Serbia decided so". Referring to those now in power in Serbia as "vermin", Ilic stated that they rule Serbia thanks to the media, but that the people realized this and now want changes. "This can only be delivered by the coalition led by the SNS," said Ilic. "I cannot forget the crowbar on my head... they tore my brains apart. I cannot forget a second attack in Knez Mihailova St., the injuries that destroyed my head," he told the forum, according to the newspaper, and referring to his 2009 head injury. Ilic also noted that the opposition "cannot be corrupt - only the authorities". He further stated that he believed they resented his criticism of being "inept and corrupt", and that for this reason, the authorities were "looking for something to use against him": "Since they found nothing, they remembered that nine years ago I kicked a folder of a journalist, and they started court proceedings against me."
