Serbian Ministry for Kosovo State Secretary Oliver Ivanovic has not succeeded in persuading Serb towns in northern Kosovo to give up on the referendum. He once again stressed that the referendum was contrary to Serbia’s interests. "Referendum will cause conflicts with Belgrade" The referendum in northern Kosovo will be held on February 14-15, four northern Kosovo town mayors and the Kosovska Mitrovica District head have decided at a joint meeting. Ivanovic said that the “result of the referendum is already determined” and that the mayors and the Kosovska Mitrovica District head had stated “together with the people” on July 25 that they did not accept the Pristina institutions and EULEX. “Therefore no to Pristina, no to EULEX, but this way they are directly questioning their communication with Belgrade. The question is, is such a position sustainable? I told them that in my opinion, such a position is unsustainable both practically and politically,” the state secretary told B92. He stressed that the referendum exceeded the jurisdiction that the four northern Kosovo town mayors had and that it encroached on the Serbian government and president’s responsibility. Ivanovic added that “serious people in Kosovo are wondering what kind of policy this is if it leads to conflicts between the local representatives and the Serbian government”.
