Striking Nikola Tesla Thermal Power Plant (TENT) workers say they no longer wish to negotiate with Energy Minister Milutin Mrkonjic. TENT Shift Workers’ Union President Dragoslav Ljubicic says that the minister “lied to the workers and did not come to the negotiations”. Power plant workers on strike refuse to talk to minister Ljubicic told Radio B92 that the plant management had illegally spent EUR 55mn which “is enough money to pay three months of shift work in TENT”. “We have nothing to talk about with Mrkonjic. Milutin Mrkonjic is a liar who lied to us that he would come and then failed to inform us, even with a telegram, that he was not coming. We do not want to talk to him, we want to talk to the company owner and that’s the Serbian government embodied in Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic,” he stressed. However, Ljubicic said that “knowing the people running the Serbian government and the ministry, he does not see a way out from the crisis” and that he “will try to be reasonable for a few more days”. More than 600 TENT workers spent last night at the plant. They have announced that they will strike until they get an increase in wages based on the shift work, but pointed out that electricity production will not be hampered.
