Serbia must not give up on its European pathway if it wants an economic development, Vojvodina Executive Council Chairman Bojan Pajtic has stated. The Democratic Party (DS) deputy leader told daily Blic that it would be useful if Serbia got the EU candidate status in March but that we must not give up on the EU accession regardless of the March decision. Serbia “must not give up on Europe” He explained that the EU accession implied modernization of the state, public sector reforms, intensified economic development and attraction of foreign investments. Pajtic ruled out a possibility that the DS could form a coalition with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), adding that a possible coalition with the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina would depend on the election results. When asked whether his party would stand elections in Vojvodina with the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) and the United Regions of Serbia (URS), he said it “is too early to talk about it” and that it was certain that “representatives of all major ethnic minorities living in Vojvodina will be on the DS’ list”. He stressed that the Vojvodina Executive Council had had great results, stating that reduced number of the unemployed, construction of 1,500 kilometers of roads, construction and reconstruction of eight bridges were only some examples. “The results of the provincial Executive Council show that my team deserves trust for another mandate. This is my only ambition at the moment,” Pajtic was quoted as saying. Bojan Pajtic (FoNet, file) Blic Tanjug
