Several politicians have stated in the past days that the possibility of a DS-SNS government after the elections in the spring was "impossible". Now analysts say they believe such an alliance between the two most popular parties in the country would be "unlikely". Future SNS-DS government "least likely" However, Ivica Dacic, who heads the Socialist Party (SPS), which is taking part in the current government led by the Democrats (DS), stated over the weekend that he did not rule out such a coalition. SDSP leader and cabinet minister Rasim Ljajic was quoted as saying that he " would have nothing against" such a coalition, while SDU leader Zarko Korac said he was afraid Serbia was in for "a government of economic national salvation". The opposition Serb Progressives (SNS) and the ruling Democrats (DS), however, remain adamant that they will not forge an alliance after the parliamentary elections, expected to take place in the spring. Ipsos Strategic Marketing Director Srdjan Bogodavljevic believes it is "almost certain" that Serbia will have a large coalition government, and doubts the two parties will form a coalition. CESID Program Director Djordje Vukovic sees such a future coalition as "the last option". "One of the motives is the paranoia of (the parties representing) small political options that they will be forced out of the political game in this way. That also suits the SRS and the LDP, who make up extreme political options where such a coalition would mean a future political gain," said he, and added that "it was possible that the story (about a DS-SNS coalition) was launched in order to keep in check the appetite of their coalition partners": "I think that coalition is the least likely. We can expect either a coalition around the DS or the SNS, and there will be plenty of modalities to form those." B92
