Minister says elections will be held in Kosovo

Goran Bogdanovic said on Friday the next local and parliamentary elections will be held in Kosovo as well "if Serbia's Constitution and laws are upheld". "If the Constitution and laws of Serbia are upheld, it goes without saying that the elections will be held in Kosovo too," the minister for Kosovo said during a meeting of the Parliament Committee on Kosovo, which discussed funds for the province and the draft budget for 2012. Minister says elections will be held in Kosovo United Regions of Serbia member of parliament from Kosovo Stojanka Petkovic asked the minister if the draft budget would last six months or a year, explaining that politics is very important at a time when the most significant financial law of the country is being created. "According to some announcements, Serbia will hold local and parliamentary elections in March, and the survival of Serbian institutions in Kosovo depends on that," Petkovic stated, adding that Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel demanded recently that all so called parallel institutions be dismantled. Bogdanovic said the budget "would last as long as the government". The committee on Friday adopted by a majority vote the draft law on budget for 2012 according to which the funds for the Ministry for Kosovo and Metohija total slightly over RSD 4.6bn (EUR 44.8mn). The funds will support local self-governments, sustainable survival and return of internally displaced persons (IDPs), improvement of living conditions for children and youth and activities of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
