Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac has stated that a permanent and sustainable solution needs to be found for Kosovo. He explained that the solution should be acceptable for all the people who lived there but also for the EU that Serbia was striving towards, regardless of the recent postponement of the granting of candidate status. “Solution for Kosovo should be acceptable for everyone” Speaking about the reforms implemented in Serbia, and the EU's recommendation for the candidate status, the defense minister stated that "it is clear that we have fulfilled all conditions, and that we are closer then ever to the EU." "Unfortunately, Serbia carries a burden that no other country joining the EU had. That is why we are seeking for a sustainable solution, acceptable for all the people living in Kosovo, but also for the EU," Sutanovac told daily Press. Commenting the possibility that Serbia may not be granted the candidate status in March, he said that dates were not essential but rather the modernization of the Serbian society. “There are European countries that are not EU members but share the same system of values,” he was quoted as saying. "The story of dates must not discourage us, but rather motivate us to work harder. It is unrewarding to forecast the date, because if everything was entirely up to us, we would have been at a much higher position on the European scale a long time ago," Sutanovac underlined. In view of the Serbian president's call on Serbs in Kosovo not to shoot at KFOR soldiers, the minister said that "the worse case scenario is a conflict with the international community."
