KFOR troops threw tear gas at them but they did not use weapons even though the citizens had been warned several times that the soldiers would fire if they unloaded the sand. Even though KFOR and the local Serbs were ready to talk, they failed to reach an agreement since their requests were diametrically different. Both KFOR and the local Serbs wanted the other side to withdraw from the road but both sides refused. The Serbs were surprised by Serbian President Boris Tadic’s call to leave the barricades and most of them did not want to comment on it.
