The Belgrade-Pristina talks will continue on November 30, shortly before the European Council is scheduled to decide on Serbia’s EU candidate status. The two-day talks that ended on Tuesday in Brussels yielded results regarding mutual recognition of university diplomas, which is not the case with the administrative crossings. EU mediator, K. Serbs satisfied with dialogue EU mediator Robert Cooper believes that results in key issues have been reached. “This was the first meeting since September and it was a good meeting. It did not produce as many results as I hoped but we reached an essential progress in numerous areas and achieved results in the main areas. I hope that starting from next year everybody who has a Belgrade and Pristina university diploma will be able to use it for further education or employment in the other capital,” Cooper stressed. Leposavic Mayor Branko Ninic told B92 that it was good that the talks had continued but that it was even more important that Belgrade did not accept anything that would indicate Kosovo’s statehood. “We have heard that an agreement on recognition of the university diplomas has been made while there was no agreement on the other two issues and it is good for us Kosovo Serbs that the agreement was not made so as to mention Kosovo as an independent state, and that’s to turn the administrative crossings into borders which is unacceptable to all Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija,” he stressed. Ninic added that only Albanians would benefit from the agreement on the diplomas, but that it was good that at least some agreement had been reached. Albanians from southern Serbia are also satisfied with the agreement on the university diplomas even though some of them voiced concern over the implementation of the agreement. “Of course, I welcome the agreement in the first place. However, I was unable to learn about the way and technique of the realization of the agreement anywhere. Given some of the previous experiences I assess that there will be certain problems there,” MP Riza Halimi has said. He explained that Belgrade and Pristina’s move had multiple significance because it would open a possibility of a better life for young Albanians and stop the emigration process, which was also important.
