EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said on Monday in Brussels that the continuation of the Kosovo dialog was expected "very soon". Ashton believes in Tadic, German PM says "no shortcuts" "Truthfully, I'm hoping that the next round of dialog will start very soon," said Ashton at a press conference during a meeting of EU foreign ministers when asked if she thought the dialog would continue before the December meeting of EU leaders. "I have told President Tadic several times that I believe in his leadership capabilities in Serbia and that he genuinely wants Serbia to be seen as part of the European Union," she was quoted as saying. The high representative for EU foreign and security policy underlined that Tadic "knows that there are things which need to be done together" and that she hopes the "agreement will be seen being implemented in the next days or weeks." "The European Union will be very prepared to support him in that undertaking," concluded Ashton. Also in Brussels on Monday, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle stated that his country backs EU integration of the Western Balkans, but requires the fulfillment of the necessary criteria. In the case of Serbia, the conditions also include "good neighborly relations with Kosovo", Westerwelle said, stressing that "those who wish to join the EU must not support violence." "Everyone must fully meet the criteria.
