Serbian Justice Minister Snezana Malovic has said that the current government is the first one since 1998 which managed to “survive” the entire mandate. She added that the government had for the most part achieved its goals. Government achieved its goals, minister claims “The results were made especially in things that are under the Justice Ministry’s jurisdiction. Combat against organized crime and corruption has been intensified. As far as functioning of judiciary is concerned, the penal policy has been tightened and trials have become more efficient,” the minister stressed. According to her, the upcoming elections will be an opportunity for the Serbian citizens to assess the government’s work based on their own perception and government’s results. She stressed that trials would in the future be held within a more reasonable period time. Commenting on judicial cooperation with the countries in the region, Malovic said that it was improving. “You cannot start any combat against organized crime if there is no cooperation. We have reached very good relations with the Justice Ministries in the region. Agreements on mutual extradition of citizens have been signed with Montenegro and Croatia. I expect the agreement to be signed with Macedonia at a conference on November 29 in Belgrade, whose topic is precisely combat against organized crime,” the justice minster pointed out. She strongly criticized Croatia’s government decision to adopt a law annulling Serbian indictments from 90s, adding that the bill did not contribute to improvement of cooperation between the two countries. As far as Kosovo was concerned, Malovic said that Serbian state organs were cooperating with EULEX but not with the provisional institutions in Pristina. “If we are talking about the judicial issues in Kosovo, Serbia’s position is then clear, we will not recognize Kosovo’s independence. On the other hand, cooperation with EULEX is a part of the UN Security Council 1244,” she explained. Snezana Malovic
