Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini arrived in Belgrade Wednesday and met with Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic. The Italian minister said he was convinced that European Commission (EC) would give a positive opinion about Serbia’s EU candidacy bid. Italian FM meets with deputy Serbian PM After the meeting with the Serbian deputy PM, Frattini reminded reporters about significant progress that Serbia has made in combat against corruption, cooperation with the Hague Tribunal and in creating a good business environment. He stressed he expected the EC to recognize the efforts in its report. Djelic said that today was a great day for Serbia and stressed that Italy was one of Serbia’s key partners in economic cooperation. “When Frattini was here the last time he announced the visa liberalization which came true. The fact that he is here today can only be a good sign,” he pointed out. The visit of the top official of Italy, an EU member state which strongly backs Serbia's EU integration, coincides with the release of the European Commission's report assessing progress of the EU aspirant countries. Đelić said that today was a great day for Serbia and stressed that Italy was one of Serbia’s key partners in economic cooperation.
