Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic cautioned Friday that certain countries were thinking about unilaterally changing the reality in the field. Addressing the participants of the first regional conference of Bundestag scholars dubbed “Prospects of Southeastern European states and their EU path” held in Belgrade, the deputy PM said that such ideas whereby the countries were going beyond their mandate and were even thinking of using force represented a danger for Serbia's EU pathway. Serbia won’t accept imposed solutions – deputy PM "Serbia will by no means give up its European future. We want to reach a compromise with Albanians (in Kosovo) in a peaceful and civilized way," he stressed. According to him, the European path is the right one because it stopped wars on the continent and Serbia expects that its legitimate national interests will be respected, as well as that it can count on Bundestag's support in the project. Djelic also pointed out that Serbia expected the status neutrality of EULEX to be respected, which, according to him, did not always seem to be the case. “Serbia expects that the European Commission (EC) will recognize its efforts, particularly in respect of the Action Plan,” the deputy prime minister underscored. “Serbia does not want frozen conflicts, Serbia wants a compromise but it cannot accept imposed things that not a single other democracy in Europe would accept,” Djelic stressed. He recalled that the dialogue with Pristina produced good results and would be continued, which should all lead to EC's positive position on Serbia's candidacy and the start of the accession talks. “This is our goal, and we will see whether it will be achieved,” Djelic pointed out and reiterated that Serbia had a good regional cooperation and that it would not support any move which could question the integrity of Bosnia-Herzegovina. “The fact that Croatia will join the EU in July 2013 shows that the enlargement process is still ongoing, although with difficulties,” he concluded.
