FM Vuk Jeremic believes that the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU could slow down and warned the organization that this would be dangerous. "I think the time ahead of us will not be that of the Brothers Grimm, but of Shakespeare, and not everyone gets out alive in Shakespeare," he was quoted as saying. Not everyone in Serbian politics survives, notes minister Jeremic added that "in order to reach the goal, we need to survive, but historically not all our leaders survived". British journalist Tim Judah, who moderated the final panel held as part of the Serbia-EU Forum in Belgrade on Friday, asserted that this statement made by the Serbian foreign minister "will resonate for a long time". Jeremic also said that he hoped the EU "would understand that and integrate the Western Balkans". The Serbian foreign minister noted that a vacuum would appear if the process were to slow down, and added this could produce a boomerang effect. As a physicist and politician, said Jeremic, "I am aware that vacuums do not last long, neither in physics nor in geopolitics". "This is a triangle between the West, the East and the Southwest, and Serbia's leaders in the past balanced in that triangle." The Serbian minister also stressed that the country would remain committed to its EU path, but noted that it would not do what cannot be done. "What's possible is possible, what's impossible, won't happen," he explained. He also warned against "dangerous attempts by Pristina to realize its interests through unilateral moves and the use of force". "Our motto remains: 'Keep calm and carry on'," concluded the minister.
