Greek Foreign Minister Stavros Lambrinidis said on Wednesday in Belgrade that Serbia "deserves to be given EU candidate status". The Greek official also pledged his country's support to that end. At the same time, Lambrinidis welcomed the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, saying that it is the right path to take. Speaking about bilateral relations, he said that ties between Serbia and Greece were strong and that there was potential to improve economic cooperation. Referring to Serbia's candidacy for membership in the EU, Jeremic said that while Serbia would continue to do all it can to achieve that goal, "if it does not happen in December it will not be the end of the world". Stavros Lambrinidis also met with Serbian President Boris Tadic in Belgrade on Wednesday. Tadic's cabinet said in a statement after the meeting that it focused on bilateral ties and Serbia's EU integration bid. Tadic thanked his guest for Greece's support for Serbia's territorial integrity and its EU integrations, said the statement. Lambrinidis on Tuesday started his mini-Balkan tour in which he already visited Croatia. On Thursday, Lambrinidis will meet in Pristina with Kosovo Albanian officials. Asked to comment on his counterpart's trip to Pristina, Vuk Jeremic said Lambrindis was "a good friend of Serbia, welcome in every part of the country". Lambrinidis said at a joint news conference after a meeting with his Serbian counterpart Vuk Jeremić that the position of Greece on the Kosovo issue remained unchanged.
