Northern Kosovo Serb representatives have announced that local Serbs “will fight against Kosovo customs” at the Brnjak and Jarinje administrative checkpoints. They pointed out that the agreement on customs stamps reached between Belgrade and Pristina was “expected”. K. Serbs: Customs stamp agreement unacceptable Kosovska Mitrovica District Head Radenko Nedeljkovic said Saturday that the agreement was “expected in order to overcome current problems” in the province. He told Beta news agency that northern Kosovo Serbs will not accept Albanian customs officers regardless of any agreement. “Just like (Belgrade team head Borislav) Stefanovic stated last night, the agreement does not apply to the administrative checkpoints. Serbs in northern Kosovo and Metohija, regardless of any agreement, will not accept Albanian customs officers,” Nedeljkovic said. He added that it would mean acceptance of Kosovo’s statehood. “I am sure that there will be no Albanian customs officers at the Brnjak and Jarinje crossings. As far as the stamp is concerned, it can be used south of the Ibar River,” the Kosovska Mitrovica District head stressed. He explained that northern Kosovo citizens will fight with “all political and democratic means” so the “Kosovo customs does not come to life” at the two administrative crossings. Leposavic Mayor Branko Ninic also says that the Kosovo Customs stamp is unacceptable and that Serbs will not accept Kosovo Customs officers at the two administrative checkpoints. Zubin Potok Mayor Slavisa Ristic said that the agreement was “one more betrayal” and that “it should be expected that Kosovo customs officers will be assigned to the crossings with central Serbia in the next ten days”. “We call on Stefanovic to face the people and explain them what it is he accepted, instead of letting people being insanely exposed to risk from being killed by ROSU (Kosovo police special unit),” he stressed. Kosovska Mitrovica Mayor Krstimir Pantic pointed out that the agreement was bad for Serbia “because we consider Kosovo a part of Serbia and Serbia’s stamps should be valid.” Belgrade and Belgrade and Pristina’s negotiating team reached on Friday in Brussels the agreement on customs stamp that will read “Kosovo Customs” without any other symbols that refer to the Pristina authorities.
