Serbian government's European Integration Office Director Milica Delevic believes that Serbia deserves to get the green light for its EU candidacy in October. “It is important that some progress is made in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue in September in order for European Commission (EC) to give a positive opinion on Serbia's candidacy,“ says Delevic. Serbia “deserves positive opinion from EC” She told daily Danas that it is important to pay attention to common interests with the EU member states and to look for solutions in constant communication. “I believe that reform efforts thus far deserve the ‘green light’ from the EC in October,” she was quoted as saying. “After that we will need good political climate in the EU member states that will make a final decision on the candidate status in the European Council. In order to succeed in all this we need to work but also to have constant and intensive communication with all European partners,” Delevic pointed out. “There is enough time to solve some things before the EC publishes the opinion on October 12. First of all, it is important that the round of the Belgrade- Pristina dialogue on September 2 in Brussels brings some progress, but also that the situation in the field is stable and that both sides act responsibly. Serbia did not go into solving the issues in the region or in the reform process because of the candidate status and a date for the membership negotiations, but because of protection and achievement of our own interests,” she told Danas.
