The most significant objection to the draft media strategy concerns the withdrawal of the state from media ownership, said the Culture Ministry state secretary. This is because citizens believe that they would not be fully informed if all media outlets were privatized, Dragana Milutinovic-Milicevic told Beta news agency on Thursday. "Citizens do not want privatization of all media" "The essence of the largest number of objections which have been heard in the public debate is that local communities, that is the citizens of Serbia, are asking for the right to be fully informed, which, in their opinion, they would not have if every single media outlet was privatized," Milutinovic-Milicevic stated. One of theruling Democratic Party (DS) vice-presidnets, Jelena Trivan, said that her party supported the principle of government withdrawal from media ownership. "This is a European standard which we aspire to," Trivan told Beta. Suzana Grubjesic, a member of the Presidency of the United Regions of Serbia coalition, said that the solving of the government media share issue will likely wait for the next government. "I doubt that someone will give the matter a serious look now, the year before the elections," she told Beta.
