Serbia "to support Israel on issues similar to Kosovo"

Serbia's Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and Israel's Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich met on Monday in Belgrade. The two officials discussed "good cooperation between the two countries and Israel's support to Serbia's efforts to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty" - according to reports. He added that Serbia paid a lot of attention to relations and communication with the Jewish community in Serbia, noting it was a shared duty to nurture co-existence and prevent any possible incidents between different nationalities or religions. Aharonovich said this was a return visit, adding Israel would continue to support the friendship and ties between the two countries. He said Israel supported Serbia's efforts to preserve Kosovo, and also expected Serbia's support in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian self-government. "The Palestinians want to declare independence in the UN Security Council, but we believe conflicts should be solved by agreement and we condemn unilateral moves," Aharonovich said. Aharonovich will go on to visit the Interior Ministry's communication center in Belgrade and meet with representatives of the Justice Ministry on Monday, followed by meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic on Tuesday.
