Serbian FM visits Caribbean countries

Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic is paying an official visit to the Caribbean countries - Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Barbados. He is holding talks about the strengthening of cooperation in the fight against organized crime and their support to the preservation of Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, said announcements. Serbian FM visits Caribbean countries In the last two days, Jeremic visited Trinidad and Tobago, as well as Guyana, where he met with the countries' top officials, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released. After Guyana, Jeremic will go to Bridgetown in Barbados, where he will confer with its Foreign Minister Maxine McClean. In Trinidad and Tobago, Jeremic had talks with acting Foreign Minister Roodal Moonilal, while in Guyana he met Foreign Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, as well as Secretary General of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) Lolita Applewhaite, the release reads. The talks focused on the improvement of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the domains of agriculture, education, as well as the liberalization of the visa regime with these countries. The special emphasis was placed on the strengthening of cooperation in the fight against organized crime, the domain in which the cooperation between Serbia and Latin America yielded great results. The Serbian minister thanked the countries for their support to Serbia's diplomatic efforts aimed at preserving the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and highlighted the importance of the fact that most Caribbean countries have not recognized the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo and Metohija. “We explored the ways in which we can improve the cooperation in the fight against organized crime, drug trafficking in particular, so that it would be at the same level as the cooperation Serbia currently has with the U.S. and certain South American countries. It is of immense importance that there are no black holes in geographical terms when it comes to combating illicit trafficking in drugs,” Jeremic said. “I have also informed the Caribbean officials about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and call on them to keep their firm stand on the Kosovo issue despite the new wave of pressures, to which they are being exposed,” Jeremic added.
