Pristina negotiating team head Edita Tahiri says the agreements between the two sides represent “Serbia’s first step toward recognition of Kosovo independence”. The Pristina team chief has stated that political issues will not be discussed and announced “another agreement package” in July. “Serbia on its way to recognize Kosovo” “It is becoming clearer that Serbia’s EU integration is conditioned by recognition of Kosovo and Serbia’s first step toward recognition of Kosovo’s independence was made today,” Tahiri stressed after several-hour-long negotiations in Brussels on Saturday. According to her, the agreements are based on reciprocity and their implementation will be guaranteed and monitored by the EU. “These could be the first historic agreements between the two states and I think that they were reached because the both states have a goal to join the European Union. With these agreements Kosovo and Serbia have fulfilled some of the conditions and values that lead toward the EU,” Tahiri told Radio Television Kosovo (RTK). Belgrade team head Borislav Stefanovic said on Saturday that the agreements on freedom of movement and birth registries did not jeopardize Serbia’s sovereignty in any way and did not mean recognition of so-called independent Kosovo. The Pristina team chief pointed out that “modality“ for implementation of the agreements would be subsequently determined. “The agreement is based on the principle of reciprocity, which means that everything that applies to a Kosovo citizen will also apply to every Serbian citizen who travels to Kosovo,“ she explained. Tahiri assessed that the talks were “necessary standards that both Kosovo and Serbia need to fulfill on their way toward the EU“. Edita Tahiri (Tanjug)
