Outgoing EULEX Chief Prosecutor Johannes Van Vreeswijk has said that he is disappointed with the fact that indictments have not been raised in some cases. He explained that this primarily referred to the investigation against former Transport Minister Fatmir Limaj who is suspected of corruption and organized crime. EULEX prosecutor disappointed with lack of indictments “My expectations were different, I thought that cases would be solved more quickly. However, it simply was not the way I thought it would be,” the Dutch prosecutor told Pristina-based Albanian language daily Zeri. He stressed that indictments had not been filed in some cases due to a “change of strategy” and added that he did not want to speak about concrete cases. Van Vreeswijk admitted that he had been pressured in April 2010 by Kosovo politicians’ statements and that certain people had come to his office in order to “give him advice” about what he was supposed to do but stressed that he had never succumbed to the pressure. He said he was disappointed he did not manage to wrap up open cases the way he planned and stressed that things had become complicated and trials had been stalled more than he could imagine. The Dutch prosecutor explained that he was leaving EULEX because his contract had ended and that EULEX Chief Xavier Bout de Marnhac had agreed to it.
