Independent investigative mechanism should be formed under UN auspices to probe human organ trade allegations, Serbian Justice Minister Snezana Malovic says. She said that the Serbian delegation had pointed this out during the meetings with U.S. officials. Organ trade investigation “should be monitored by UN" “We talked about this, especially with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Thomas Countryman, and we underscored Serbia's stand that it would most expedient if the UN Security Council constituted an independent body that would be in charge of the investigation,” she told Serbian reporters in Washington late on Friday, and added that Serbia did not have a problem with cooperating with EULEX. She indicated that the reason for Serbia's initiative was the fact that events and evidence alone did not take place in the territory of only one country, which was why the proceedings need to be elevated from the level of one country's judicial system and transferred to an independent body. “We pointed out that if such a body is not formed, Serbia has no problem with cooperating with EULEX,” Malovic stressed. According to her, the U.S. showed understanding for Serbia's stand and during the talks and the delegation reiterated that such an investigation could also be carried out by EULEX only. “We notified them that we have nothing against cooperating with EULEX,” the Serbian justice minister said and concluded that no matter who was placed in charge of the investigation Serbia would cooperate with them.
