Biggest obstacle removed, minister says The Serbian defense minister pointed out that by arresting Mladic, Serbia had made a big step forward, which had been lauded by the world, and expressed the expectation that the country would be given the EU candidacy status and the date for the commencement of the accession negotiations by the end of the year. “The process should soon gain momentum and I expect Serbia to get the candidacy status and the date for the beginning of the negotiations by end of year,” Sutanovac stressed, thanking Hungary on supporting Serbia's European integration. He recalled that the European Parliament, Hungary and 19 other countries had ratified the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Serbia, and called on the remaining EU countries to do the same and thus support Serbia.
