The EU intends to introduce a mechanism that would enable the visa regime to be reintroduced for Serbia on accelerated procedure in emergency situations. However, this does not in any way imply that Serbia and Macedonia would be removed from the white Schengen list, said Martin Grabjec, spokesman of EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström, on Monday. EU does not intend to reintroduce visa regime Certain reports regarding this issue that have appeared in the media are completely incorrect, Grabjec told reporters. The proposition which the EC would present to the EU Council of Ministers on Tuesday represents just an addition to the existing regulation on visa regime for countries on the white Schengen list and it is not in direct relation to a great number of false asylum-seekers coming to the EU from Serbia and Macedonia, he specified. On June 9 and 10, the EU Council of Ministers should adopt the EC draft document which EU Commissioner Malmstrom presented to interior ministers on May 12, pointing out that the visa regime could be reintroduced for a country in case of large-scale immigration contrary to regulations or abuse and jeopardy to EU's security. The EC introduced intensified monitoring over the implementation of visa liberalization for the Western Balkans back in January, adhering to insistent requests by France and the Netherlands which set this as a condition for visa liberalization for Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania. Cecilia Malmstrom will present the first comprehensive report on supervision over visa liberalization to interior ministers in June.
