Serbia has a chance to get EC’s positive opinion on the EU membership bid by year's end, government's European Integrations Committee Chairman Laslo Varga says. “But there is no real basis for setting of a date for the beginning of talks on the EU membership,” he added. Serbia can get positive opinion “by year’s end” He told Tanjug that the next few months were crucial for Serbia's further EU integration process, adding that among other things Serbia should also deal with the problem of false asylum seekers in the EU countries, complete the justice system reform and establish best possible cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. Apart from the preconditions that Serbia has to fulfill, another difficulty is the atmosphere within the EU at the moment which is not quite enlargement-friendly, although many member states are in favor of the enlargement. Varga underlined that the EU aspirants had to be aware of the fact that their possible mistakes were under scrutiny and doubled in the eyes of those who assessed their progress. He believes that that the EU has to preserve credibility by keeping the promise of full EU membership for the Western Balkan countries, which also need to meet the obligations they have on this path.
