Dutch MPs “skeptical about Serbia’s cooperation”

Dutch MPs who are visiting Belgrade have told Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz that they are not fully satisfied with Serbia’s cooperation.

Dutch MPs who are visiting Belgrade have told Hague Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz that they are not fully satisfied with Serbia’s cooperation. According to daily Danas, Brammertz spoke to the Dutch MPs ahead of his visit to Belgrade. Dutch MPs “skeptical about Serbia’s cooperation” The daily has learned that head of the Dutch delegation Gerda Verburg told the chief prosecutor that “the delegation is not convinced that War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic has a 100 percent control of the search for (Ratko) Mladic”. Quoting Verburg’s deputy, MP Harry van Bommel, the daily writes that “the Dutch believe that Serbia simply is not ready to get the EU candidate status by the end of the year”. Van Bommel told Danas that most of his colleagues and Dutch citizens believed that Serbia would not get the EU candidate status by the end of the year. He stressed that he personally also believed that even though he strongly supported Serbia’s EU integration. He told the daily that he and his colleagues were surprised by Vukcevic’s optimism and certainty that Belgrade would fulfill all conditions in order to get the EU candidate status. “I asked Mr Vukcevic whether he had enough power to get to the military and intelligence services' core, and he said he was certain he could. That was very strange considering that not even we in the Netherlands are completely sure about the work of our secret services,“ the Dutch MP was quoted as saying.
