Deputy PM head of the team for EU negotiations Bozidar Djelic says he's "ready to resign" if Serbia is not made candidate for EU membership by the end of 2011. "We will do our best for Serbia to obtain the EU candidate status by the end of 2011. Should that not happen, I am ready to take the responsibility for such outcome, as we are in the government to achieve results, not just for the sake of the position," Djelic stated in an interview for the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti. Deputy PM "ready to resign" over EU candidate status Djelic pointed out that Serbia's EU candidacy depends on two things - the report of Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz and the reform program that the country will implement. "Our Action Plan has 96 items, most of which have a deadline by June, early September at the latest," Djelic stressed. He said that it would be best if any possible remarks in Brammertz's next report were precise, so that Serbia would be able to correct them. "The members of the Dutch Parliament's European Affairs Committee will arrive in Belgrade on Monday. We will present to them all the efforts being made in cooperation with The Hague and in the domain of reforms," Djelic underscored. Djelic believes that it should be said without hesitation that, in order to join the EU, Serbia must find a solution for Kosovo, which should not be in contradiction to Serbia's Constitution and state policy.
