The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Wednesday filed charges against Serbia's PM Mirko Cvetkovic and members of the negotiating team for the sale of Telekom. The charges, filed to the Higher Prosecution in Belgrade, allege their abuse of office during the procedure of sale of Telekom Srbija. Opposition party sues govt. over Telekom The criminal charges, filed by SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic, refer to both former and current Regional Development Minister, Mladjan Dinkic and Nebojsa Ciric respectively, former Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic and two Finance Ministry State Secretaries Vuk Djokovic and Dusan Nikezic. "They proposed, adopted and implemented the decisions that are harmful for Serbia and its citizens," member of the SNS Presidency Dejan Djurdjevic told the journalists. “They enabled Telekom Austria to be the only bidder at the tender and thus get a chance to buy the share of Telekom Srbija at a price which as at least EUR 450mn below the actual price,” he stressed. Djurdjevic also pointed out that the judiciary “is afraid of politicians and executive authority”, but that he hoped that it would “stand up to the government’s pressure and act in accordance with the law and citizens’ interests, especially if one bears in mind how much the sale of Telekom is harmful for the citizens”. “The sale of Telekom represents a sale of economic resources,” said SNS official Marko Djuric, adding that Serbia would that way lose its vital telecommunication infrastructure, as Telekom Srbija is a public good. He stressed that Telekom Srbija's 2010 net revenue had been RSD 117bn, which, as he said, is more than enough for the construction of two bridges. "We expect that the prosecution will show independence and prosecute those who are considered responsible, and protect the citizens who are jeopardized by this criminal sale, the aim of which is for the ruling coalition to remain in power," the SNS official pointed out.
