Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has denied media reports that MUP Gendarmerie Commander Bratislav Dikic had wiretapped the phones of his closest associates. The claims surfaced in a recent article published by the Belgrade-based daily Blic. Minister denies MUP wiretapping scandal Dacic said that "so far there had not been a single case of inside wiretapping in the police". He underlined that "everything that came up as a problem in the police would be investigated". Citing unnamed sources, Blic said that Dikic had secretly wiretapped his closest associates and that the Criminal Investigation Department had discovered this through the control of the work of certain Gendarmerie members, when they placed Dikic under surveillance. Dikic’s security discovered this and the whole case reached the MUP top. A committee was then formed to deal with this case, but to this day there is no information of its discoveries, Blic claims. Dikic was subjected to criminal police surveillance “a few months ago, when abuses of office of some Gendarmerie officers in Novi Pazar were detected, and which could not have been carried out without the knowledge of their superiors.” The investigation revealed that Dikic was wiretapping his associates without authorization, so the criminal police started "monitoring Dikic from that moment", Blic wrote.
