Nikolić ends hunger strike during "Easter summit"

The Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarchate in Belgrade today hosted a "political summit", after the Easter ceremonies, said reports. After the morning liturgy, representatives of the ruling and opposition parties headed to the Patriarchate where they met with SPC head Irinej. Nikolic ends hunger strike during "Easter summit" Ruling Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader and the country's deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, his party colleague and Diaspora Minister Srdjan Sreckovic, and opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolic all attend. Nikolic also had an easter egg and thus ended his hunger strike, started on April 16 in a bid to force early elections in Serbia. SNS official Vladimir Bozovic announced the end of the strike, but refused to answer when reporters asked if political issues were discussed at the meeting. Although Nikolic's party deputy Aleksandar Vucic previously stated that SNS officials would "turn their head the other way when they meet representatives of the government even in a theater", the first meeting between the two sides took place soon after Nikolic left hospital. Srdjan Sreckovic, however, claimed that the meeting on Sunday did not touch on politics. "Today is a great Christian holiday, a time when we all must show forgiveness, unity and spend this great day in the circle of our families," the minister said, speaking at the Patriarchate building. Ruling Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader and the country's deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, his party colleague and Diaspora Minister Srđan Srećković, and opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader Tomislav Nikolić all attend.
