Serbia wants to live in peace, cooperate and share friendly relations with neighbors and other European countries, and build a state respecting the rule of law. This is according to Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, who attended the celebration of 196th anniversary of the Second Serbian Uprising in Takovo, central Serbia. "Serbia wants to live in peace with neighbors" “It is our duty to point to the need for a historic reconciliation of former enemies. Maybe Takovo is the place from which to call for peace and send a message of reconciliation and cooperation in the joint efforts aimed at building our future,” Dacic said at the ceremony in Takovo, where Prince Milos Obrenovic launched the Second Serbian Uprising against the occupying Ottoman Turks in 1815. The two uprisings laid the foundation for the renewal of the Serbian state, after the nations' medieval kingdom and empire was destroyed in the Ottoman invasion. Dacic underscored that Serbia pays great attention to preserve the noble memory of participants and victims of armed clashes in the past, especially those that date back to the time of the First Serbian Uprising in 1804 and the Second Serbian Uprising, "as the pillars on which the modern Serbia rests". "We look to the future with optimism, as it will certainly present Serbia with integration into the family of European nations," Dacic concluded. On behalf of the Serbian government, the deputy PM laid a wreath at the memorial in Takovo, after which the ceremony was observed by representatives of the Defense Ministry, the Moravica District, municipality of Gornji Milanovac and other institutions.
