Opposition Serb Progressive Party (SNS) leader said on Friday that his decision on whether to abandon his hunger strike would be announced on Easter Sunday. Speaking from his hospital bed in a New Belgrade clinic, Nikolic said his party "will not make a single gesture that would bring elections by force". SNS leader: Hunger strike decision on Easter "The pressure is great, but I am yet to decide what to do. The lent is ongoing anyway, and on Easter, we'll see if I'll be the only Serb not eating Easter eggs," said he. Asked to comment on EU Commissioner Stefan Fule's remark that he should join institutions and establish dialogue, Nikolic said the Progressives had never left the boundaries of institutions, while in the past days, he engaged in "dialogue with himself". He also said that the country's president and ruling DS party leader Boris Tadic visited him in the hospital, but that this encounter did not amount to "dialogue". "That was no dialogue, because results come out of dialogues," asserted the SNS party president. Nikolic went on to state that the party would "continue its struggle in the same way", and called on other opposition parties who wished to see a change of government to join them. "We have spoken our piece, and they theirs. Elections will happen sooner or later," said Nikolic, and claimed that "because of everything that's been going on in the past days", there should be no further speculation that the Progressives would join the Democrats in a political alliance in the next government. Nikolic concluded by saying that in the past week he "did a lot of thinking, and lost nothing but kilograms". The SNS leader started his hunger and thirst strike on April 16, demanding that the authorities call early elections in the country. Tomislav Nikolic (Tanjug)
