Opposition parties led by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) demanded Saturday in the southern Serbian city of Leskovac early parliamentary elections. They pointed out that, regardless of whether there would be any agreement with the government on that matter, the election date would be known at a rally which would be held in Belgrade on April 16. Opposition renews call for early elections At the rally dubbed “Changes for Serbia” SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic urged the government to agree on the date of early parliamentary elections, stating that if there be no agreement, the date would be decided at an opposition rally on April 16. “We will do everything peacefully in Belgrade on April 16,” he pointed out. He said the government was unable to resolve Serbia's accumulated problems and lead the country into the EU, which was why changes were necessary. New Serbia (NS) leader Velimir Ilic said that Nikolic had already gained the support of the people and that the people had already designated him as the new prime minister. He sent a message to the representatives of the authorities, and particularly to Serbian President Boris Tadic, to step down on their own as otherwise it would be the people that would drive them away from their positions. The participants at the rally were also addressed by SNS deputy leader Aleksandar Vucic, Power of Serbia Movement leader Milanka Karic and Socialist Movement leader Aleksandar Vulin.
