Several journalists’ associations sent an open letter on Wednesday to Serbian President Boris Tadic. They expressed dissatisfaction because the Media Strategy has not yet been adopted and stating that the situation in media has been “worse than ever” since October 2000. Journalists warn president about situation in media They referred to the period when the regime of former President Slobodan Milosevic was overthrown. “Freedom of media in Serbia is today seriously threatened. The situation in media is worse than ever following October 5 (2000), and the state is doing next to nothing to assist the media industry in surviving the crisis... This is not a reform of media that you promised when you came to power”, the letter reads. The letter was sent by the Journalists’ Association of Serbia (UNS), the Independent Journalists’’ Association of Serbia (NUNS), the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina, the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) and the Association of Independent Local Media Local Press. The letter will also be sent to representatives of the European Union and the OSCE.

The letter was sent by the Journalists’ Association of Serbia (UNS), the Independent Journalists’’ Association of Serbia (NUNS), the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina, the Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) and the Association of Independent Local Media Local Press.

The letter will also be sent to representatives of the European Union and the OSCE.
