Serbs in region urged to take part in censuses
It is very important for Serbs in the regional countries to respond to censuses and express themselves freely, as that is the way to preserve national identity.

It is very important for Serbs in the regional countries to respond to censuses and express themselves freely, as that is the way to preserve national identity. This is according to Serbian Minister of Religious Affairs and the Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic. Serbs in region urged to take part in censuses “The census is in the interest of the Serb people, and it does not jeopardize anyone in any way. Serbia honors the sovereignty of all regional states. However, as the mother country of the national corpus, Serbia urges all its citizens to realize their rights,” Sreckovic said in an interview for the Tuesday edition of the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti. According to him, Serbia wants and is due to offer support to all Serbs in the region in realization of their rights guaranteed by international standards in the same manner in which national minorities in Serbia realize theirs. In this respect, Serbia was given the best possible assessment by relevant international institutions, Sreckovic recalled, adding that the rights of national minorities are a condition that the EU insists on and will never abandon.
